FAFSA
U.S. Residents/Permanent Residents that meet the eligibility requirements to file a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) are eligible to apply for the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan program assuming they have not already borrowed federal loans up to the aggregate maximum for graduate level students of $138,500. This includes all federal loans taken as both an undergraduate and graduate student. The maximum federal loan that a graduate student can borrow per academic year is $20,500 or the cost of attendance for the program, whichever is less.
The FAFSA application can be completed at www.studentaid.gov. Students who are applying for the summer term must have the FAFSA completed for the prior school year. For example: Summer 2025 enrollees wanting to borrow federal loan for Summer 2025 must complete a 2024-25 FAFSA prior to June 30, 2025, which is the final filing date for the 2024-25 FAFSA.
